Talk: Alejandro Sarne Medina, CEO, Instituto Colombiano de Robótica Avanzada – ICRA
Abstract: Latin America is emerging as a dynamic hub for robotics through Odyssey, the region’s first robotics and space science ecosystem. From its beginnings as a competition, Odyssey has enabled the development of 6 planetary rovers for analogue missions and 20 autonomous drones, while building a community that connects education, industry, and international partners. The Odyssey Conference has hosted speakers from the USA, Luxembourg, Australia, China, Cameroon, Spain, Germany, and Colombia, with recent editions held in iconic venues such as the Planetarium of Medellín, bridging technical innovation and public engagement.
Today, Odyssey is part of the Global Robotics Cluster in Daegu, South Korea, positioning Latin America within worldwide networks of innovation. With partners like Softserve and Ekumen, and collaborations with public and private organizations, this ecosystem is cultivating the next generation of robotics talent and ventures. This talk will explore how these efforts are transforming Latin America into a growing force in global robotics.
